Story of the voyage of the first Viking ship to sail in nearly 1000 years. The ship, "Viking", sailed from Norway to America, showing that Leif Erikson could have come to the New World before Columbus. "Viking" was proudly displayed at the Colombian Exposition 1893, after which, it remained in the Chicago area. This edition is published by the Friends of the Viking Ship who are currently restoring "Viking". The original story was written by Rasmus Elias Rasmussen, of Bergen, who was a seaman on board the ship. He kept a diary while on the voyage and tells of their adventures on the sea and on shore. A copy of this book can be purchased from the Friends of the Viking Ship, www.vikingship.us. The "Viking" can be seen while repairs are currently being made, see the Friends of the Viking Ship website, for their schedule of viewing times.
