What's a Nice Girl Like You Doing on a Glacier Like This?
That’s what people think when they hear that she climbed glaciers at 12,000 feet in Colorado with her boyfriend. It was a thrilling, once in a lifetime adventure until she lost her footing and took a terrifying 150-foot slide down the ice ending in a near-fatal crash.
After losing her balance at the top of the icy slope, Cheryl knew “there was nothing between me and the menacing rocks below. If Doug couldn’t stop me, I knew I was as good as dead.”
On the long road to recovery, she had months to put the entire experience into perspective. She received a dreadful prognosis after the doctor could not put all the pieces of bone back in her foot. However, she was determined and defied the doctor's warning that her injuries would prevent her from ever walking normally again, returning to her love of hiking among the rocks and dancing the night away in less than a year.
Along the way were many epiphanies including learning a practice to quench the raging fire of her anger with forgiveness as she struggled to understand how her boyfriend (an experienced mountain climber) could have encouraged her (a novice) to take such a treacherous hike.
Cheryl celebrates the opportunity for more adventures in the future, having learned to trust her intuition and transform this experience to benefit others.
