Paramedic James R. Stine Jr. holds nothing back in this book that speaks to the human condition on a number of social issues as seen through the eyes of a long-time emergency medical services (EMS) provider. He highlights some of his most memorable moments over the past 35 years through these stories of trials and tribulations, low moments and soaring successes. Above all, he tells of the underlying social ills and how they affect the way those in EMS perform of their duties. This book–for better or worse–tells it all!

James R. Stine Jr. began working as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Emergency Medical Services on June 1, 1977; becoming a paramedic in November, 1978. He holds certifications with the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was among the first group of five in southwest Michigan trained to operate an advanced life support ambulance. This training lead him to perform the first-ever advanced life support call while teamed with a basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); performing a successful field resuscitation of a cardiac arrest victim. James, who has answered more than 35,000 emergency calls since he began a career, says this is his life’s calling. His debut book is a testament to some of the most memorable calls for help he has answered. He feels this book will open the eyes of those who may not know what paramedics face on a daily basis. In addition, he wants to give tribute to those who answer the calls for help––oftentimes placed in harms way to save others. He currently lives in southwest Michigan with his wife.
