The youngest of eleven children, Mary Reiss Farias grew up on a farm in Minnesota. At the age of five, she began gymnastics. Loving the sport, she continued at North Shore Gymnastics Association in Long Lake, Minnesota until she graduated high school. Good grades and a level 10 skill set earned her a scholarship to the University of Arizona in Tucson where she competed all four years of her eligibility. Mary spent the next decades coaching. She and her husband, Marc, own a gym in Tucson.
