A Sovereign Court Theaters of the Eighteenth Century explores, in essays and images, four stunningly conserved eighteenth-century opera Markgräfliches Opernhaus in Bayreuth, Germany; Rokokotheater Schwetzingen in Schwetzingen, Germany; Drottningholms Slottsteater in Drottningholm, Sweden; and L’Opéra Royal in Versailles, France. Gilbert Blin, internationally known historian and stage director of Baroque opera provides a deeply insightful introduction explaining the social context of these royal theaters. In this book, ConstellationCenter presents the fruits of its extensive research of the surviving theaters from the Baroque period as part of its endeavor to build the first fully functioning, Baroque-style opera house in North America. This is the second book in a continuing series documenting the research of ConstellationCenter, the first being Wisdom and The Great Organs of Zacharias Hildebrandt.
