Synopsis

A kid gardening detective story! Betsy finds the bodies--of the dead butterflies. Heartbroken, she grabs her magnifying glass and camera and launches an investigation to figure out who or what killed her favorite insect. Classmates taunt her when she vows to plant a garden to bring back the butterflies. Betsy writes and draws every day in her diary as she works to solve the mystery. She does. The Dead Butterflies Diary is an 8" x 10" 32-page picture book especially for 5-10 year olds. Perfect for home reading or the classroom. A great companion for those schools with gardens. Book includes a Glossary, Favorite Butterfly Flowers, and Betsy's Tips for Planting Your Butterfly Garden. Lots of additional gardening information at www.sandybakerwriter.com.

About this title

About the Author

Sandy Baker combines two of her passions--writing and gardening--into her children's gardening books. The Dead Butterflies Diary is the third in her circle of these kid gardening books with a plot. She's been a Sonoma County Master Gardener since 2000 and subtly weaves bits of her gardening knowledge into her books. Two others in the circle are Zack's Zany Zucchiniland, 2012, and Mrs. Feeny and the Grubby Garden Gang, 2011. In 2012, Sandy co-wrote with Tom Reed a thriller, The Tehran Triangle, for the more mature reader (Amazon readers gave it their highest marks!) Sandy also writes other short stories and poetry for teens. Her professional life has included: technical writer and editor, newspaper reporter and columnist, travel writer, director of development and PR, and instructor of English and Social Studies for Army GIs. Sandy graduated from Penn State with a BA in English.
