In 1990 Erik Spiekermann and Neville Brody founded the FontFont type library, 'by designers, for designers.' Published by FontShop International in Berlin, the FontFont collection soon proved to be a major innovative force in the typographic world. Typefaces published in the FontFont library helped establish new criteria for type design. From the no-nonsense functionality of sans-serifs such as FF Meta, FF DIN and FF Profile to the contemporary sensitivity of neo-traditional romans like FF Scala, FF Quadraat, and FF Celeste; from the smart geometry of FF Minimum or FF Typeface Six to the streetwise novelty of FF Hands, FF Trixie and FF Blur - the number of FontFonts that have triggered new trends in typography is staggering. This book focuses on two aspects of type and typography. The process of type design is reflected on in an anthology of essays about FontFonts and interviews with their designers. The second part of the book is a rich collection of pages 'made with FontFont' - an exuberant feast of letter forms. In addition, renowned typographers from many parts of the world were invited to present their view on a FontFont of their choice in specially made type specimens.
