Staircase of Roots is a selection of narrative poems encompassing Janet Winans' childhood in San Francisco, her years as a wife, mother, now a grandmother, touching moments gleaned from her various careers as teacher, librarian, summer camp director and more. This is a gathering of poems speaking to real people of real events and things, the stuff of real lives, poems which touch the heart of our human experience, showing what we share as we make our way through our days.
