During the summer of 1986, a unique thing happened in Port Hueneme, California. Surfing was great, the beach was awesome and life was simple. A group of high school girls practiced volleyball on Hollywood Beach. There were plenty of volleyball courts for the local folk to play. The Rudder Room was next to the beach. These girls played Volleyball against the barlies. Nobody knew them, or consider them as competitive for they were short by comparison to other teams. Hueneme High was in the same region with the number one ranked team in the nation: Mira Costa. They were the reigning California State Volleyball Champions and National Champions of Girls' Volleyball.
