Here's What I Know So Far is the title of a remarkable new series of children's picture books that tells about the first year in an animal's life from a unique point of view: that of the animal. The series is by Diane Till, designed and illustrated by Tom Schwartz. The first book in the series, Doc's Story, covers the milestones in the life of a mixed-breed pup, starting when he is ten days old. Doc's observations, as he tries to deal with the new and strange requests of his humans, are delivered in entertaining and often moving poetry. Accompanying each of Doc's discoveries is a comment from Doc's veterinarian, Dr. Tim Roberts. He explains in prose what the puppy is going through, as well as how to start training a pup to become a happy, confident dog.Doc's life, as seen from Doc's point of view, helps a child understand why good parents sometimes have to say 'no.' and it helps parents realize the great importance of play. Doc's experiences include learning to walk on a leash and a first visit to a vet. They are often comical, as when he tells readers, "You won't believe the places where you're not supposed to pee."

Doc is a puppy. He is handsome, brave and smart (as he is the first to tell you). When he is eight weeks old, he is adopted by Polly and her family. They love him, but they have all sorts of very strange ideas. Like you need to walk on a leash. Or you shouldn't roll on smelly fish. Or you're not supposed to chew on shoes. They even have definate ideas where you should -- and should not --pee. Doc learns a lot in a year, and he tells us with each milestone, "Here's What I Know So Far."
