Born on Christmas Day, 1964 and raised in the most notorious enclave of Olympic Gardens in Kingston, known as Waterhouse, the greatest gift Devon Harris ever received was the belief that a positive attitude and a never say die philosophy would carry him farther than a sense of injustice and a heart filled with anger. A graduate of the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in England, Devon received a Queen s Commission in December 1985 and served in the officer corps of the Jamaica Defence Force until December 1992 when he retired as a Captain. Encouraged by his commanding officer, Devon tried out for and was selected as a member of Jamaica s first bobsled team which competed in Calgary, Canada in 1988. The Disney blockbuster movie Cool Runnings was based on that experience. Devon also competed in the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France and the 1998 Games in Nagano, Japan. Devon has made a commitment to do whatever it takes to nourish the minds and bodies of the young students in Jamaica and elsewhere around the world who Devon believes have the same potential for success as did he. Through his Keep On Pushing Foundation, which he founded in 2006, Devon aims to bring hope to youths in disadvantaged communities around the globe by creating practical opportunities for them to explore their full potential. The Keep On Pushing Foundation initial activities are focused on delivering new desktop computers and a solid breakfast for every elementary school child in Devon's old Waterhouse school district, for, as Devon believes, you cannot learn if you are hungry and lack for the most basic tools to compete in the 21st century.Through Keep on Pushing, Devon also works with the Right to Play as an athlete ambassador, supporting Right to Play s efforts in using sports and play in refugee camps to enhance child development and build community capacity. Devon is married with five children, resides in New York and travels internationally as a Motivational Speaker, offering a captivating message of persistence, teamwork, inspiration and hope. He is the author of the motivational children s book, Yes I Can!, and Keep On Pushing: Hot Lessons from Cool Runnings.

From the publisher: "KEEP ON PUSHING: HOT LESSONS FROM COOL RUNNINGS is a semi-autobiographical motivational book by original Jamaica bobsled team member Devon Harris. In this book Devon has brought together all that he has learned along the way, from his days as a student in Kingston, to his education at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, his life as a Jamaica Army officer, and of course to his experiences at three Olympics which changed his life forever. At the heart of KEEP ON PUSHING are the lessons he has learned of the power of persistence over all sorts of obstacles in order to live one's best life. His goal, through the book, is to bring this message of how everyone can keep on pushing and working for their dreams every day of their personal as well as professional lives. The book is divided into ten sections-each section representing a lesson. The lessons are designed to inspire and give the reader tools that they can immediately apply to their lives in order to reach higher levels of success. The end of each lesson features a Key Points to Remember section which highlights the most salient points in the lesson. Additionally, each lesson culminates with an Assignment section which helps to reinforce what was taught by giving the reader a task to complete. KEEP ON PUSHING is not merely a regurgitation of theories on successful living. It is a passionate, personal and authoritative discourse on what it takes to push past life's challenges, conquer your fears and embrace change in order to live the life of your dreams.".
