What shame shall we allow ourselves to continue to carry, having been born to ancestors east of the equator? Will we continue in the downward spiral of self-hatred? How long, are we going to linger in the ‘dirty dozen jokes’ propping ourselves up in a pseudo elevated status above our sisters and brothers? When will we look back to move forward with an intentional mindset to reclaim and reestablish the momentous legacies either overlooked or deliberately blotted out? Do you not know that it has proven to be beneficial in that it can assist in dispelling the programmed lies resulting in self-denigration and a perpetuation of myths regarding your person? Let it be a reminder as it has been for me, Whereby, a refresher back in time by reading reenactments of our struggles and witnessing the perseverance, strength, and resilience of our ancestors has empowered a change in my perspective regarding ‘who I am known to be opposed to who I am’. Though most of these events are atrocious; they have persuaded me that looking back to move forward is essential in capturing a renewed consciousness of the prodigious legacy which was stolen and eliminated from our History. Lest we forget, we should continually remind ourselves that, despite the limitations inflicted upon our people, they were true to their pursuits. Recalling those events enables us to stand proud in this moment of our lives because of them. The right of entry we take for granted, some of the comforts we enjoy, and most of our accomplishments, are due to the hard steadfast endurance of our ancestors. #LestYeForget ~~~ I am [WE are] who I [WE were] was meant to be including my [OUR] tight coiled hair, ebony complexion [be it dark or otherwise], thick lips, full hips, and in no ways am I [are WE] lesser than ANYONE. ~~~
