Synopsis
Preschool children are naturally curious about the world of mathematics. They want to build, sort, count, and measure. For the first time, Kathy Richardson shows teachers how to actively engage young students so they can meaningfully develop these mathematical ideas. Based on the most current research and closely aligned with NCTM standards, the book describes children's development and provides activities in these areas: Number Sense, Geometry, Sorting and Classifying, Patterns, Measurement, and Data Collection. In all, more than 75 activities are included for circle time, small group, and individual instruction. Teachers will also learn how to create a supportive learning environment and provide appropriate instruction as they help children make sense of the world of mathematics. Grade PreK.
