John Conlee is a professor of English at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, with a specialty in medieval English. His doctorate is from the University of Illinois.

In this fourth novel in the series, Arthur and Cabal are summoned to the Land of Faerie--the land of The Summer Country--where they must perform a dangerous rescue mission. While they face many foes in the faerie realm, Arthur and Cabal receive unexpected help from the Wild Herdsman and from the Ladies of Avalon; and they also encounter a witch named Scatha, an audacious little cat--and a brave and intelligent faerie dog who becomes Cabal's special friend. Although Merlin has now disappeared from the mortal realm, his presence hovers over this entire adventure; and his spirit, if not his body, appears to Cabal in the form of a "sending."
