The single-page introduction gives the background to the pictures, and it prepares the reader for the delightful, poignant, beautiful, stunning, first-rate photographs that follow. It is a tribute to the girl / adolescent / woman Fanny, and to the continued brilliance of one of the very best photographers alive today. Is it worth the price? Definitely. Jock Sturges presents twenty five plates selected from fourteen years of his career. These includes several of his remarkable images. They won't be new to those who have followed his publications before. However, here each plate contains a commentary on the opposite page. In it the photographer describes the family and setting from which the image emerges. What makes so much of his work stand out is his ability to relate to these subjects and their family. The trust and comfort he has earned is rewarded with the complexity of the character he is able to capture on film.
