Synopsis
Ponlop Rinpoche explains the basis of the Mahayana Buddhist path to enlightenment, the Bodhisattva vow, in which the aspirant undertakes to achieve buddhahood not for any personal benefit, but for the sake of all beings. As the author says, "The reason someone who takes the Bodhisattva vow is fit to be called a bodhisattva is that simply taking the vow involves a tremendous amount of courage...You are accepting as your own individual responsibility the welfare and the eventual awakening of an inconceivable, possibly infinite, number of beings."
