Christmas is a constant reminder to "Never Stop Believing".
Christmas is a special time a year. A time where you remember past memories and create new ones. A few years back my wife and I stopped at a small Christmas store in Chesaning, Michigan, where I found a small wooden telescope under a table top Christmas tree. I picked it up and started looking through it when the store keeper shouted over to me. "Hey! thats a magic telescope if you look through it on Christmas Eve you will see something special."
When I brought it home my son Nicholas, who was six at the time said "Dad what is this?" I explained to him what the store keeper told me so he and I decided to look through the telscope on Christmas Eve.
He opened his bedroom shade while I turned on the outside lights. We sat up watching the snow flakes fall from the sky while handing the telescope back and forth to one another. Both of us looking for something magical to happen. When the clock struck twelve on our grandfather clock in the foyer. My son Nicholas shouted. "It Santa!" Where? I ask as he handed me back the telescope. It was Santa Clause with his large bag of toys. He waved to us and then disappeared into the darkness. It was an exciting experience we will never forget.
Couple days after Christmas I started writing the story of this Magical event. When friends read the story they all agreed that I should submit it for publication. After many rejections I finally found a publisher willing to take on the project. I wrote the story as if I were a Grandfather sharing a memory from his childhood in 1947. My illustrator Larry Salk was happy because that was the era in which he grew up. His master piece drawing bring the characters to life and create a warm Christmas Eve setting.
I have received many nice letters comments from people who have bought the book and have written how their son or daughter want them to read it to them almost every night.
The Magic Telescope is a story that is dear to my heart and hopefully someday it will dear to yours.
Remember to never stop believing in Christmas but most of all never stop believing in yourself.
Enjoy!
