Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Quarto. 682 pages, indexed. SIGNED BY AUTHOR. 1st Edition. This listing is for VOL ONE ONLY. Hardcover bound in green cloth. Cover has light to moderate rubbing and wear. Map illustrated endpapers. Book clean and sound. Illustrated with a couple of portrait photos at the front. This volume contains entries from 1834 to 1892, including some of the Civil War years. Samuel Rothrock (1809-1894) was a Lutheran Minister serving churches mainly in Rowan and Cabarrus Counties, North Carolina, but he also served in Stanly, Guilford, and Alamance Counties. In 1835-1836 he was in Franklin and Fulton Counties, Pennsylvania. He preached both in English and German, sometimes at the same service. He was born in Forsyth County, North Carolina, and at 19 he walked to Gettysburg, PA for his education (a trip that took 20 days on foot), walking back to North Carolina when he was done.
