The son of a college professor involved in the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Trevor earned Phi Beta Kappa honors at Syracuse University, where he cartooned for the Daily Orange. He served with the Air Force in Wyoming as Minuteman launch officer and worked as the staff artist and cartoonist for the Sentinel Newspapers in Denver before coming to Albuquerque.
