I think this is one of the more important books I've written about deer hunting because so many hunters spend the majority of their time trying to find and see deer and little time preparing for what to do after they've shot one. This book is an essential reference for bowhunters since almost all of the deer shot with bow and arrow run out of sight before dying. However, it's also important for hunters who use firearms to read this book. Not all deer shot with a rifle drop on the spot or even show an indication they've been hit.

One of the most valuable chapters in this book discusses how to determine whether or not a deer you've shot at has been hit, whether using gun or bow. Another valuable chapter covers the use of leashed dogs to help hunters recover deer they've shot. The information included in this book is useful for tracking all big game, not just deer.
