The authors Helen and Fran wanted an accurate, up-to-date manual to use for their own training courses, which was relevant and simple to use in the real world. They decided to get together and write their own. This book will teach you what you need to know, but we would still recommend attending a First Aid training course.
Helen Underwood trained at University as a Physiotherapist, and worked primarily in Paediatrics, Intensive Care and Acute hospital sectors. A career change involving a year-long Outdoro pursuits instructor traning course on the West Coast of Scotland saw her become a sports coach in a number of areas including rock climbing and kayaking. She now runs a sucessful first aid training company in West Yorkshire. She also coaches at a local canoe club and is a civilian instructor with a local ATC cadet squadron.
Fran Woodcock trained as a nurse, and is currently a part-time Resuscitation Officer at an NHS hospital in Yorkshire (she runs with the defib and oxygen when requried to incidents on site!!) and also runs a sucessful first aid training company. Fran is a mum and an active scout leader as well as enjoying mountain biking.
