Get Science 11-14: Wikid Coursebook - Softcover

9780956681003: Get Science 11-14: Wikid Coursebook

Synopsis

Finally, a book that helps students 'get' the difficult concepts in 11-14 science, rather than cramming facts for the exam. Get Science is different in lots of ways:

* Pictures do a lot of the work, so fewer words are needed
* Only the key facts are given, to make the `big idea' easier to grasp
* The `Got it' questions are about science, not writing
* The science is made interesting

Each page has 3 functions: to set up a question or problem, provide an exceptionally clear explanation, and develop your confidence through a set of easy-to-difficult questions.

GetScience is essential for students following the popular `Wikid' science course. It helps maximise the learning from the activities, consolidating knowledge and preparing for tests. Each page is linked to the relevant part of the course. Get Science is also for other science courses matching the English National Curriculum, as it meets the requirements of Assessing Pupils' Progress (APP) and the National Strategy Framework. For teachers, Get Science is a source for communicating all the `big ideas' in 11-14, and is great for assessment for learning, cover work and homework activities.

About the Author

Pam Large has taught science in London schools for more than 30 years and is a Fellow of The College of Teachers. She is passionate about putting science in context and developing challenging learning experiences that maintain students' natural enthusiasm for science. Since 2001 she has combined responsibility for Key Stage 4 Science, at Sacred Heart High School in Hammersmith, with writing, editing and consultancy work. She has contributed to numerous textbooks and educational resources including 21st Century Science, Science Works and upd8.

Tony Sherborne taught science around the world before deciding he was better at creating the lessons than delivering that. Since 1995 he has been devising new ways to make science worth learning, for the Centre for Science Education, where he is Principal Lecturer. He has also been a NESTA and RSA Fellow. Tony is known for founding 'upd8', which brings up-to-the-minute science into the classroom. It has grown into a complete 11-14 curriculum, now used by 20% of schools in the UK.
