‘Southern Rails on the Isle of Wight’ is an award-winning innovative history of one of the most loved parts of the British Railway system. Over the course of two volumes it traces the story of the railways on the Island from their birth right up to the present day. When originally published Volume One was awarded the joint self-published book of the year 2010 by the David St John Thomas Charitable Trust, and very rapidly sold out. This is the second edition of Volume One, which has been extended with 16 extra pages and over 60 new or replacement photos, making over 250 in total, while retaining much of the original text and other features. Like the first edition it concentrates on those lines which formed the constituent parts of the Isle of Wight Central Railway, and the former Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport Company.
