Southern Rails Around Southampton is the third volume in the award-winning Southern Rails series. It charts the fascinating story of the growth of the railways in and around Southampton from the very earliest days of main-line railways to the latest electric units. With a new larger A4 format and even more material, the book includes 300 high-quality colour and black and white photographs. In addition there are full colour station plans and route maps, plus tickets and other ephemera.
Backed by extensive research this book provides a fascinating insight into the development of railways around the city. Covering the main-lines from Southampton Terminus to Southampton Airport, from Northam to Totton, and St Denys to Netley, the book also has a section on The Fawley Branch, one of the last branch lines built in this country.
Coming in 2012 will be the companion volume Southern Rails on Southampton Docks which will document the growth of the docks and its railway system, as well as many of industrial lines in and around the city.
