A true story, Against All Odds documents how things started to spiral out of control for a young man brought up in Hackney in a deteriorating neighbourhood in a normal household with a loving family.

The youngest of two children, by the age of 11, Charles had started experimenting with drugs. He hated it, but continued using just to be popular.

It went from bad to worse. Fighting escalated into shoplifting and theft, breaking into cars and putting petrol bombs through people's houses.

By the time Charles was 18 all his friends were drug users. Drugs and alcohol went together and the effect led to outbursts of violence and although the drugs were a means of numbing the pain, it was only a temporary solution.

He and his gang of friends were now involved in drug dealing, fraud and `taking without consent', and the fact that they were destroying lives every day did not seem to trouble their conscience.

Yet now his life is completely different, and instead of being a `menace to society' he is seen by many as a beacon of light. But how did this reversal in fortune and attitude take place?
