Walks in the Cheviot Hills’ is one of a series of five walking guides to Northumberland written and published by David Haffey, a local author who has lived and worked in the county for the last 40 years. These books are probably the best selling walks books for the area and have been praised not only by walkers but also by retailers such as Waterstones, the National Trust and local Tourist Information Centres.
This 60 page book describes ten circular walks that offer you the opportunity to explore and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Cheviot Hills. The routes vary in length from about 3 to 6 miles and most can be completed with relative ease in about half a day or less.
To help you choose your walk, the Introduction includes a map and contents page showing the location of each walk together with a details of its length, in terms of both distance and time.
The 4 to 6 page description of each walk then includes:
.  an introductory summary that describes the walk in terms of the character of the landscape, its degree of difficulty, local services (cafes, pubs etc), how to get to the start and where to park;
.  a written route description that explains all of the twist and turns of the walk to ensure that you find your way easily;
.  a specially prepared and easy-to-follow colour map that includes lots of detail to help with navigation and is cross referenced to the written route description;
.  information about features of interest that you will encounter along the way, focusing on wildlife, landscape, history, archaeology and geology:
.  high quality colour photographs of the beautiful landscape of the Cheviot Hills and its rich natural heritage.
