Feeling Better, Doctor? is an account of the life of a remarkable man. Professor Bill Inman was cruelly struck down by polio at the age of 21 during his final medical exams at Cambridge University. At this point most men would have given up and settled for a sedentary life, but the author overcame all the obstacles and continued with a distinguished career in medicine.
He was determined to live as normal a life as possible in spite of being confined to a wheelchair and he married, raised a family and continued to enjoy his hobbies of fishing and gliding. This uplifting book is the story of his achievements on both personal and professional levels and it will be an inspiration to all who read it.

Among many important developments, Bill Inman made the link between oral contraceptives and thrombosis, which saved thousands of lives and earned him the title 'Father of the Mini-Pill. Not satisfied that sufficient safeguards were in place, Inman struck out on his own with the Drug Safety Research Unit at Southampton University.
Paralysed by polio at 21 during his final-year medical exams, Bill showed the bloody-mindedness that got him through the rest of his life when he persuaded doctors to take him off the iron lung and let him complete his studies from a wheelchair. Funding his education at Cambridge by shooting wildfowl fron a kayak and breeding exotic mice, he was junior doctor at Addenbrooke's Hospital, where the patients loved him especially for being at their level - and it's from them that the title of Inman's autobiography comes.
Bill ploughed a unique path, and we all benefited from his far-sighted search for fairness and knowledge.
Bill Inman died in October 2005. This book is a fascinating account of his life and work. Anyone who has taken a recently marketed drug has reason to be grateful to the pioneering work of Bill Inman, who set up the first Yellow Card Index to monitor drug safety in response to disasters like thalidomide.
