Synopsis

This book consists of two adventure stories. In Book One: the adventure of a 10 year old boy (Bill Brison) in Stalinist Russia are told. He and his family were fortunate to get out of Chechnya alive as WW2 set Europe Ablaze. Stalinist terror was rampant. In Book Two: Bill and Peggy Brison returned to Grozny in 1991, when a revolution was toppling the communist regime. Chechen were demonstrating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The KGB were kicked out, the Communist Mayor killed, the Chairman of the Soviet forced to resign. Former atheistic communists and Chechen flocked to the Church (later destroyed by the Russian army). The book didn't start as an anti war book, but in reviewing the experiences in the light of the 150 year old history of Russia's attempt to subdue and occupy Chechyna (a small republic within its own boundaries, it became apparent that Chechyna is a case history or object lesson with immediate application to Iraq. The book has been adopted by the Bury Stop the War group for its use showing the utter futility of even a superpower to attack and occupy even a small country. It just doesn't happen.

The book is a valuable resource for students with useful chronologies.
