About the Author
Edmond Rostand is the French dramatist famous for 'Cyrano de Bergerac'and 'L'Aiglon'.
Sue Lloyd wrote the only biography of Rostand in English: 'The Man who was Cyrano...' (2003, 2007).

'You've written nothing to equal "Chantecler"' wrote Maurice Barres to Edmond Rostand, when the play was first performed in 1910.
Given the difficulties of staging this play, where the characters are animals and birds, 'Chantecler' was only rediscovered in France fairly recently, and performed to great acclaim with several modern revivals and new editions.
