From the Back Cover

'You've written nothing to equal "Chantecler"' wrote Maurice Barres to Edmond Rostand, when the play was first performed in 1910.
Given the difficulties of staging this play, where the characters are animals and birds, 'Chantecler' was only rediscovered in France fairly recently, and performed to great acclaim with several modern revivals and new editions.
This edition of the original text, with notes and an introduction in English by the Rostand scholar Sue Lloyd, aims to bring this wonderful play to a wider audience.
