In the 6th chapter of Matthew's gospel, the Lord Jesus talks about three things; giving to the poor, praying and fasting. He begins speaking about each subject in the same way with the word 'when'. Imagine for a moment that Jesus had begun each section with the word 'if'. 'If you give..if you pray..if you fast..'. What would He have been saying? He would have been telling us that giving to the poor, and praying and fasting are things that we have a choice about. You can decide if you want to do them or not. But by using the word 'when' Jesus assumes His followers WILL give to the poor, pray and fast. The only question is the timing of WHEN we will do those things. Within this book you will find: Jesus' word and examples on fasting and prayer What the Bible teaches What happens when people fast and pray Great warriors of the faith who fasted and prayed Questions and Answers about the practicalities How to start your own spiritual journey
