Synopsis

The Tinker and the Talisman is the follow-up to: The Working Mans Ballet and if you have not read it just read what ex-Chairman of Chelsea Football Club Ken Bates had to say about it! So there you have it. Hudson on Hudson. It was probably the best book by a player tha you have ever read. His passion for the game has leapt from every page in a prose which beggars belief. I wonder why he is not with a newspaper replacing one of those "As told to" or "talking with" columns which are so boringly repetitive of nothing in particular. Alan was a genius on the field, which sets him apart from others in a gifted era. This book demonstrates another Alan Hudson, the philosopher who was and still is frustrated by the shortcomings of lesser people around him. That fine arrogance which strides through each chapter, added to his wicked sense of humour, demonstrates his unwavering self-belief in his awesome talent and views of his contemporaries are both thoughtful and disconcerting. It was Hudson's rebellious nature which set him off on his wanderings: Stoke, Arsenal, Seattle, Chelsea again (briefly) and Stoke again, but Alan was always a Chelsea boy at heart and now he has come home again to Stamford bridge on match days, when in Drakes, he is surrounded by his still adoring fans. Both Alan and Chelsea have a lot of lost time to make up-hopefully together
