BSL was formally recognised by the Government on 18th March 2003.
Initiatives proposed will include projects to raise awareness of BSL, particularly among employers and service providers, and to research Deaf people’s take-up and experiences of accessing services.
Written in collaboration with Employment Services, this attractive book is in large print and contains 170 clearly illustrated signs, with explanatory captions, communication advice, useful background, 360 word index and contacts section, suitable for those whose work may bring them into contact with Deaf people.
Deaf sign language users need and use all services that are available to the public, such as Employment, Local Authority and Community Services. The Disability Discrimination Act requires those providing services to take positive steps to improve access.
For Deaf people this can be access to information, interpreting services and communication with agency staff.
This book is designed to supplement training and interpreting services.
