Samuel Hahnemann, for example, had an unsavory reputation even before he discovered homoeopathy, and based his ideas on occult prescientific about health and disease. Even his key discovery that cinchona (quinine), which is effective in treating malaria, causes fever, is false. It doesn't! And the provings of homoeopathic remedies don't bear the vaguest resemblance to testing for a drugs effectiveness and safety. In fact, they consist of normal volunteers ingesting various substances and writing down every stray thought that they had.
