From the Author

This shipboard journal gives such a vivid account of a 19th century voyage into what was then an unknown country and conditions. The young Scotsman who emigrated had a great eye for detail; the title comes from his description of the huge billowing sails of the clipper when he says "This is like going round the world flying". I added an introduction following up some of his references, and giving an overview of emigration from Scotland at that time. Of particular interest to those with family tree searches and maritime or sailing ship enthusiasts.
