The Contemplation of the Holy Mysteries and the Rising of the Divine Lights is a major work of mystical literature. One of the first writings of the Andalusian master, Muhyiddin Ibn 'Arabi (1165-1240), composed when he was just twenty-nine, it is nonetheless a mature work consisting of fourteen visions. They are in the form of dramatic conversations with the Divine, interspersed with dazzling visionary episodes, regarding the nature of existence, our relationship with the all-encompassing Reality, and the way to achieve true happiness. The work is a superb example of Ibn 'Arabi's inimitable style and deep perception, presented here for the first time in English. The extremely helpful notes are mostly based on Ibn 'Arabi's own oral commentary, and the appendices provided by the translators summarise Ibn 'Arabi's prologue and epilogue.
