Synopsis
The world government is preparing for the day when the Earth is too hot to support life. They believe the threat from asteroid impacts has been successfully managed, but they did not see the big one coming. After a relatively light hearted description of the author's youth, the tone of the book becomes increasingly dark, and provides an often frightening view of the distant future.
