Review

"There seems to be no end of Paul's creativity. This (Cause And Effect) is his third hardback book. Anybody who liked these previous efforts, will, I'm sure like this. The trick, Caused Effect, in particular, took my fancy." -- AL SMITH -Abacus

What we have in "Cause and Effect" is a book of really good card ticks. Mr. Gordon has a knack for producing real-world practical card magic. Much of it can be done without a table while standing. The rest can be done standing with a table. Nothing angley. He gives a great tip on out-jogging a double card. His method of getting into ATFUS is the cleanest. If you want an effect to drop their jaws, try "We Have Contact"; if you want to drop their jaws and knock there socks off try "We Have Lift Off". There is a wealth of strong card magic. "Thanks to Harry" you spell to the four Aces and then quickly cut the Four Kings. Paul is big on adding kickers. If you like that kind of card magic you'll be kicking like a mule. Yes, he has another "Twisting Effect" of course it kicks also. I highly recommend this book." -- The Internets MAGIC TALK - Joe Ferranti

About the Author

Paul Gordon's interest in Magic started in 1968. His Uncle Reg made a coin vanish, and that was it; the bug bit Paul! This interest never really blossomed until 1977, when Paul read Harry Lorayne's (now a good friend) The Magic Book. The same year, Paul joined The Sussex Magic Circle of which he is still an active member. Recently, Paul became Chairman of the Society.

In 1977 and 1981, Paul won The Sussex Magic Circle Card Competition. The prestigious judges were Peter Warlock and Francis Haxton. The latter was very friendly towards Paul, freely giving him informal private tuition. After this (1981) competition, Paul went on to win many more. In 1994, he ceased to enter competitions fully understanding that there really is no place for competition in Art! In the late 1970's, Paul contributed a few tricks to Goodliffe's Abracadabra and Abracassetta.

In the early 1990's, Paul joined The Magic Circle in London. For this position, David Berglas nominated him. (Mr. Berglas had seen Paul perform at an International Brotherhood of Magicians convention.) In the mid 1990's, Paul started, encouraged by good friend Roger Crosthwaite, to write & publish some of his effects and ideas. The Card Magic of Paul Gordon, a small booklet, became a surprise critical and commercial success. Only 50 were initially printed - it sold 300! Aside from this, Paul contributed items to Harry Lorayne's magazine, Apocalypse.

Paul's first major hardback publication was Nocturnal Creations. This book sold (and is still selling) over 2500 copies worldwide! The reviews (from Harry Lorayne, Aldo Colombini, M-U-M Magazine, The Linking Ring [Phil Willmarth], The Budget, The Conjuror, The Magic Circular [Jack Avis] and others) are staggering.

In 1995, Paul embarked on a huge lecture tour, which incorporated 22 dates. Paul's Tannen's Jubilee lecture (in New York) was a great success, and when the Magic Circle opened its new headquarters, Paul was invited to be the very first close-up lecturer.

On the strength of his writings, Paul was promoted to Associate of the Inner Magic Circle in 1998. This was followed by the publication of Protean Card Magic. This top-quality hardback book on card magic sold over 2000 copies in less than six months.

Cause and Effect is Paul's latest, and probably last, book. At 225 pages (hardback with colour dust jacket) - it's a big book. Following the tradition of his earlier works, it was an instant best seller! To date, over 1500 copies have been sold!

Aldo Colombini, of Mamma Mia Magic, has marketed two of Paul's effects; The Millennium Bug & Twin Peeks. Aside from these tricks, Paul has privately released over a dozen booklets on his favourite subject - Card Magic.

Paul has also produced (with Bob Hamilton's MVC) a top-quality video filmed in front of a lay audience with two studio-quality cameras. The video (distributed by Chazpro Magic Company), entitled Powerful Impromptu Card Magic, has sold hundreds of copies worldwide. Paul has recently produced a booklet on the jogshuffle; entitled - The Complete Jogshuffle. This booklet, plus a marketed version of The Gordon Diary Trick, Roger Crosthwaite's - Roger's Real Gone Aces, and other soon-to-be-announced projects are being produced in conjunction with Chazpro Magic Company.
