Synopsis

Now in its fourth edition, Craft Galleries provides a colourful and comprehensive view of the craft world at the end of the 1990s. Included in the new chapter on commissioning is a short article written by Dame Ruth Rendell. This article urges readers to consider the benefits of handmade work for furnishing their houses and clothing themselves. Nearly 600 photographs illustrate the work of nearly 450 makers to be seen in 107 galleries throughout the country. The book has been divided into nine regional sections, plus a chapter about commissioning. This guide is aimed at craft gallery owners, designers, architects, craftspeople, collectors, art graduates and all who enjoy beautiful objects.

From The Lion Gallery in Mid-West & Wales section : The Lion Gallery was opened in direct response to the need by artists and craftspeople in North Herefordshire for a lively, self-sufficient gallery space in the ancient town of Leominster. The area is rich in makers of distinction and we aim to show many of them by frequently changing exhibits.

The description continues alongside a location map and followed by an illustrated half page profile on 8 of their regular makers.
