Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. JV 44: The Galland Circus; Robert Forsyth; foreword by Generalleutnant a.D. Walter Krupinski; personal introduction by Generalleutnant a.D. Adolf Galland; Colour Artwork and Technical Drawings by Eddie J. Creek and Arthur Bently; Classic Publications, Burgess Hill, West Sussex, England, 1996. First printing. With the ownership signature of Flying Officer Paddy Finucan RCAF (ret.), 20 July '96. From the blurb This is the story of one of the most controversial, mysterious, and enigmatic units of the Luftwaffe. It is a story that charts the origins of Generalleutnant Adolf Galland's Jagdverband 44 amidst the crisis of command and political intrigue that permeated the Luftwaffe and, in particular, the senior echelons of the German daylight fighter force during the closing months of 1944, events which were to lead to Galland's dismissal as commander of the Jagdwaffe and the ensuing Mutiny of the Kommodores. With the aid of interviews, documentary and photographic contributions from many former pilots of this short-lived but remarkable unit, Robert Forsyth traces the history of JV 44 from its inception at Brandenburg-Briest in February 1945, through to its surrender at Salzburg and Innsbruck just days before the capitulation. Using rare eye-witness accounts, the author has also reconstructed JV 44's last-ditch combat operations with the Me 262 jet fighter from Munchen-Riem against the American Tactical Air Forces over southern Germany during April 1945. This book contains many photographs taken from private collections, seen here for the first time. It is complemented by 15 full-colour profile and perspective views depicting aircraft known to have been operated by JV 44 and line drawings illustrating the unit's airborne weapons systems. Together with detailed appendices, this is the most comprehensive account of one of the Luftwaffe's most famous units and a vital reference work for military historians, aviation researchers, and modellers. This large format book, 356 pages measuring 300mm X 220mm is in fine condition in a fine dust jacket that is now in a protective mylar wrap. Seller Inventory # 2398
