This Guide directs each student in a logical progression through the Stage Three syllabus, comprehensively covering all the subjects required. It also aids the student in preparing for this Exam by giving study plans, explaining exam techniques and describing the exam format.
The knowledge within this book is presented so that it is understood. Often students are anxious or lack confidence because the books giving them the information are written in a style that is illogical, shallow and unnecessarily complicated. Here, through the writer’s skill and experience, is a book created and designed to be fully informative, clear, concise and a joy to read. This helps the student to learn and so fulfil his or her own potential and ability.
After the success of the first two volumes, the Stage Three Riding & Stable Management again completes the needs of students being an essential part of their study programme, and being the only book they will need to learn, enter and pass this Examination. It gives all the information required and leaves no question unanswered.
As with the Stages One and Two by Hazel Reed, this book is useful to everyone wanting to gain a deeper knowledge into riding and stable management. It is proving to be an essential reference book for everyone covering a wide variety of subjects deeply such the horse’s conformation, medical facts about diseases and injuries and lungeing.

The Stage Three was the Examination I most enjoyed. By this time I was more confident and accustomed by now to the preparation for and format of the BHS Exams. I took the Riding and Stable Management separately which costs more but was worth it because I could concentrate on one particular aspect of the Exam at a time.
Again I was committed to writing a book that would cover everything, every little detail that could possibly arise during the exam. Many subjects are therefore described deeply, such as conformation (which is in itself a subject for many books!) and medical treatment.
I wanted to give a thorough overview so that this book would cover all, no other book would be necessary for study. Also I wanted every candidate to enter the exam knowing they had all the information required. At Stage Three level candidates need to have a quiet confidence, the Examiners are looking for proficiency and competency and the confidence that comes from these abilities. Having all the information to hand gives each candidate that confidence.
I also revised the book recently to cover the changes made within this Exam so that all the information is up to date.
