Synopsis

Using a basis of transactional analysis, this text takes models used by psychotherapists worldwide, converts them into terms that can be more easily understood and relates them specifically to what happens at work. Drawing on examples from a broad spread of organizations, it shows how the reader might use these theories to interpret the dynamics between people and make better choices about responses. Aiming to expand the reader's range of options, this work uses some self-awareness activities to help eliminate unhelpful patterns from the past and replace them with resourceful new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving.

About the Author

International consultant and author Julie Hay is currently Chief Executive of training consultancy Psychological Intelligence Ltd and also leads the Psychological Intelligence Foundation CIC which is a non-profit educational organisation. Julie has over 40 years managerial and consultancy experience in the public and private sectors and has trained managers in many areas of the world. Since establishing her own company in 1986, Julie Hay has consulted in sectors as varied as banking and insurance, engineering and construction, research, advertising, computer manufacturing and IT, major retail chains, pharmaceutical multinationals, local government, police, probation, prison, court, customs and taxation services, and the armed forces. Before that, she was employed within the UK civil service, a US based oil company, a major engineering organisation, and British Airways during their first period of major redundancies and subsequent culture change. In recent years she has also been a volunteer psychotherapist in a high security male prison and now has a small therapy and coaching practice. Julie is the Academic Dean of an MSc Professional Studies that specialises in Developmental Transactional Analysis, for which she runs regular workshops and international webinars. www.pifcic.org She is the inaugural and current Editor of the International Journal of Transactional Analysis www.ijtar.org an online journal with free access to all.
