Small 4to; original yellow boards, lettered in gilt on spine; pictorial dustwrapper; pp. viii + (ii) + 101; line drawings and paintings reproduced in monochrome. Dustwrapper somewhat rubbed and edgeworn, with trace of foxing to reverse side; light bump to bottom corners of boards; earlier owner's name signed on front pastedown; occasional fox spot. Good to very good condition, in a good dustwrapper. The portraits are exact in every detail and delight those who have lived among these people - Xhosa, Pondo and Thembu, Bhaca and Zulu - because of their veracity.
