Inspired by a commission to photograph A.J. Ayer five years ago, Steve Pyke set out to find the faces behind the philosophies of the western world's greatest thinkers. The result is this collection of photographs, as Pyke penetrates the surface of 78 great minds and avoids the stereotypical character assessment so often employed in portraiture. At Pyke's request, the philosophers have provided a short commentary on philosophy. Among the philosophers included are Noam Chomsky, Isaiah Berlin, Iris Murdoch, Karl Popper, Mary Warnock, Jacques Derrida, Ernst Tugendhat, Jean Baudrillard and E.P. Thompson.

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First edition of this soft cover of photographs taken by Steve Pyke. Text is clean and unmarked, binding tight, no indications of previous ownership. I would list the book as Fine save for the fact that the edges of the front cover are slightly more yellow than of the rest of the cover and the very tip of the upper right corner is slightly bent.
