Synopsis
David Townend's photographs of life in the English public school capture the atmosphere of this closed world and its prevailing values and influences. However, this is not intended to be simply a documentary record of school life, nor is it just a series of portraits of individuals. Drawing on his own experience, Townend examines the nature of the system itself, highlighting the boys' own varying reactions to the hint of rebellion, and capturing their confident preparation for the imminent advance towards the male adult world.
