This book aims to give practical hints to the owners of camcorders who want to move on from early attempts at family videos to the more elaborate researched story. It tells the aspiring director how to work with a small team of people, how to prepare participants for a shoot, what basic equipment would be useful and what to take into consideration to help the editing process. Whilst at the BBC as a producer and director, the author worked on such programmes as "This is Your Life", "Top of the Pops", "Nationwide", "Panorama" and "That's Life". He developed new programmes for the BBC such as "Pebble Mill at One" and "Out of Court" and launched "Children in Need" in 1980 and "Challenge Anneka". He saw the introduction of the first lightweight video cameras - mainly for news-gathering - and has maintained a professional interest in the lightweight camera ever since. Patterson is now working as an independent producer and trainer and is a founder member of the British Video History Trust.
