Synopsis
This book attempts to be a comprehensive guide to DIY gamekeeping for all sportsmen who find that at least an element of keepering is an essential part of their shooting. The book covers pheasant rearing, predator control and the management of rough shoots, as well as including a section on wildfowling. The two essential pieces of equipment are the subject of the two first chapters of the book - the gun and the dog: what to look for and how to choose and use them. Recent legislation relating to firearms, as it effects field sports, is summarised, and the elements of keepering , including the organisation of a shoot, are outlined. The book then proceeds to a discussion of individual species - how to pursue them successfully or, in the case of pests, how to control them. The author has written other books on shooting and the countryside, including "The Rough-Shooter's Handbook" and "Practical Country Living".
