He has lived in Hamble all his life except for 13 years (including the war years) when he served in the Metropolitan Police whom he represented at rugby football, hockey, swimming and wrestling. He was injured during the Blitz and invalided out. He started sailing at the age of five and, whilst at King Edward VI School in Southampton, won the Public Schools Sailing Championship in 1929 and 1931. . . Keenly interested in the history of Hamble, he has accumulated a unique collection of photographs, many of which appear in this book which he has researched over the past 40 years. The black-and-white sketches in this book are from his own scraper-board drawings, the painting by his father, Gregory Robinson, who was a founder member of the Society for Nautical Research. . .
