Synopsis
This text presents a comprehensive treatment of signals and linear systems at an introductory level for third and fourth year university students. The book is based on the author's 1992 publication "Linear Systems and Signals". As the title suggests, this book contains additional chapters on digital signal processing as well as analog and digital filters. There are also additional applications to communications and controls. The book contains enough material in discrete-time systems so that it can be used not only for a traditional course in signals and systems, but also for an introductory course in digital signal processing. Notable features include: an emphasis on intuitive and heuristic understanding of the concepts; extensive applications in the areas of communication, controls, and filtering; a large number of MATLAB examples; a background chapter to re-acquaint students with basic mathematical requisites; over 200 worked examples along with exercises (with answers); and a summary at the end of each chapter for effective chapter review.
About the Author
B.P. Lathi is currently a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of California at Sacramento. He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Poona, India, an M.S.E.E. from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D.E.E. from Stanford University.
