Among the infamous described are notorious figures like "gentleman outlaw" Clay Allison, Billy the Kid, Thomas "Black Jack" Ketchum, and Vicente Silva of Las Vegas and colorful, lesser known rogues like Kid Barton, Coal Oil Johnnie, Madam Varnish of White Oaks, and James Addison Reavis, the "Baron of Arizona." Here too are lawmen like Dee Harkey, Charlie Siringo, and, of course, Pat Garrett. Set in all sections of New Mexico, the 27 intriguing vignettes range from the Cival War to "The Last Train Robbery" in 1938. Well known New Mexico and Santa Fe Trail historian Marc Simmons has drawn many of these lively accounts for his popular Southwest history newspaper columns.
