Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Illustrated glossy hardcovers. INSCRIBED AND DATED BY BILL GARZKE ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. ix+ 539 pp. with index. Illustrated with photographs and diagrams. Near fine, slight evidence of use to the boards. A scarce and important study of the "superliner" passenger ocean liners of the frist decade of the 20th century, in particular the exemplars of Cunard (Lusitania and Mauretania) and White Star (Olymoic, Titanic, Britannic). Of those five, three had tragedies befall them--Titanic sunk by the well-kniwn iceberg on its maiden voyage, the Lusitania and Britannic sunk by acts of war that they were in no way designed to resist. The emphasis is on the how and why of these ships' designs, and how their design features affected them after the fatal blows had been struck by iceberg, torpedo, and mine. Of even more significance is the authors' description and anaslysis of the forensic evidence that has come from the wrecks of the three sunken ships. Seller Inventory # E31396
